When I married Simon I was not expecting to adopt family members so quickly. I knew that they would be apart of my life but not abundantly! I have been honored to be amongst many: Inger and Jorg (Simon's parents), Charlotte (Simon's voice gifted sister) and Andre (Simon's brother whose a dad)! Yes, that means that I am an aunt to a wonderful yet naughty little girl, Emilie!
Most of you have met everyone BUT the heart of the family so I've decided to introduce you to my new niece. She is about 2 and a half years old, half the height I am, with red hair and blue eyes. She is a brilliant Danish teacher. She loves her Teddy, doo da (pacifier), and blow-up trampoline that sits in the middle of Andre's flat. Some of her favorite hobbies are, counting money, imitating missekatten (a cat) and dancing! Emily loves to watch movies, too. Her favorite is The Lion King. Those who are fans or have children will be familiar with the great introduction of Simba. He is held over all the lands though he is nothing but a lion cub. During this dramatic scene Emily takes her teddy into her hands, holds him up over her head, chants something that sounds like tribal language when suddenly she switches roles to imitate all the other animals bowing down to Simba. Simon and I cry watching her. It is so hilarious.
Emily has some scary moments like most of us, as well. She screams bloody murder when she doesn't get her way. Frightenly enough, I empathize greatly (Simon will never see that side of me). As soon as she finds out she doesn't have an audience she tones down a bit. My favorite of her fræk (cheeky) tricks is when we are all gathered around and it becomes a wee bit quiet. Someone will leave the room to find where all the noise went. After knocking on a closed door Mille allows only but an eye to peer in at her. Quickly the door is slammed shut. When she comes out from her hiding place 5 minutes later, the smell hits the room and we all know why she excused herself. To think she was poddy trained!
Charlotte and I watched Emily the other day and I was grateful to get to know her better and take pictures. The girl really has spunk. Someday, she will probably be as talented as the rest of the family. Until then, she will keep teaching me Danish while participating in the Circle of Life.
