Just wanted everyone to know what we have been up to in the past coupla weeks. To sum it up, Simon has been tied up with anthropology at home and university and I have been adventuring out on my own...away from home.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays Daniel (Melanies husband) and I attend language school. It has been challenging yet so much fun. We have been introduced to people from all over the world, all sharing the same struggle of learning a new language. It has become sort of a club to me. I wrote my first project (5 pages long) in danish and presented it just last week! I also just read a hundred page Danish classic called "Tine." It is quite a disturbing book but an accomplishment none the less. Next week I will have completed my first book report in an entirely different language. I have to pinch myself quite often. It just doesn't seem real!!
This past weekend I left my husband and my little town and went to a leadership conference in Jutland, Denmark (july 2005 archives cover Jutland). It was so interesting...almost a culture shock! There were guest speakers from England, Australia, US, Norway, New Zealand, Sweden and of course Denmark. English, the universal language, was sung into my ears all weekend long which I felt was quite odd because I am now accustommed to danish. They had a variety of different speaking styles but they all shared one thing in common: The speakers were real, motivating and HILARIOUS! I went with a Ethiopian, two Danes and a Faroe Islander. On the way the first time our car broke down so we got to ride in a tow truck all the way back home (we had covered 100km) only to get on the road the following morning at 6 and start the trip in a different car all over again. Quite a journey! The only thing unfortunate about it was I only got a few photos.
Back at home, between courses, conferences and college we have been attending PREP courses. They just ended this past Tuesday. Simon and I found out a lot about each other and despite our busy schedules this elective proved to be worth it. I can honestly say that I still love my husband:)
Now we have a bit of a break and soon enough fall holiday will start giving us a few days of relaxation. Hopefully I can get some more photos to share with you. Until then I will be keeping up with YOUR blogs enjoying all the new happenings in your lives.
Peace and God Bless, The Danes
