So I was strung out on coffee, my husband was tuning his guitar and after wondering around my apartment for what seemed like an eternity I decided to walk around Billesborg to find someone to hang out with but everyone was occupied so I came back up. So I started my pace around the apartment again when Simon gets a call that worship practice is canceled. He has to go to our neighbor’s The Faroe Islander’s, house which includes seven boys (2 play on the worship team) and parents. After a few moments Simon came back and told me that we had been invited to sample a Faroe Island delicacy. “Yes!” I said very excited almost running towards the door. (I had bit all my finger nails and picked my nose what the heck else was I gonna do. The coffee was about to give me a heart attack.) On the way over Simon said, “We probably should eat it all because it is part of their culture and we do not want to offend anyone.” (Such an Anthropologist thing to say.) I agreed and we knocked on the door. All nine of the family members had gathered around the table in this fishy smelling apartment and as we entered the eldest brother/son eagerly yelled, “Courtney, you can sit at the head.” Wow! I was beyond flattered! Not only were they inviting us to be apart of who they were but they were putting me on a throne. Right before I sat down I got a little frazzled. Suddenly I noticed that everyone was laughing at me. I ran over to Simon, my security, and looked at the fine specimen centered in the middle of the table that I was getting ready to bite into: Sheep head-eyeballs and brains included. Quickly my coffee buzz turned into nausea, the fishy smell became more pungent, Simon became blurry and right before I could have passed out I decided to run and get my camera so you could witness this for yourselves. For those of you reading this in Denmark, you know my extreme dislike for lamb/sheep or anything that has had wool on it and is served on my plate. In other words, the joke was on me! Here’s to all you lamb chop fans. Eat your brains out!
Behind the Scenes: Simon went to tell them worship was canceled and noticed what they were having for dinner. He told them that he was gonna get me to come see for myself. As he was leaving he had a better idea….
